27th January 2022 eed_adminJobs

A VIP family based in Muscat, Oman, seeks a full-time governess to work with two boys aged 7 and 8, on a salary of 1200gbp/ week

The role:

The role of the governess will be to help and encourage the children to reach their full academic potential. The boys attend the local international school but, due to COVID, are currently homeschooling.

When at home, the governess needs to oversee the online education provided by the school. The ideal candidate will be hands-on with the ability to liaise with school teachers to keep up to date with the curriculum.

When the boys return to school, the governess should be able to create benchmarks and targets to motivate the boys in their learning. In addition, she should be able to tutor them in the subjects in which they may need extra help.

The boys’ level of spoken English is very good. They have been studying English for 4 years. They know the alphabet but are not yet fully fluent readers, and are still building their phonemic awareness with more complicated sounds like blends and digraphs. Their school follows an international curriculum; the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP).

Outside of school, the governess should be a firm but fair role model with the ability to engage and encourage the boys in their daily lives. The boys enjoy tennis, swimming and football. They are very active and have a lot of energy. They are sociable and due to COVID have unfortunately been missing out on a lot of social interaction.

The family have had a governess before and will be based in Muscat for the foreseeable future.

The candidate:

The ideal candidate will be a behavioural role model and in charge of organising extracurricular activities such as sports, music and arts & crafts. The house is fully staffed and food is provided but the family would like the governess to educate the children about healthy eating and lifestyle. Excellent behaviour & etiquette should also be encouraged to help the boys prepare for adulthood.

The family would like their governess to be a well-experienced candidate who is firm and confident. The governess should be a fluent speaker of English, a degree-educated qualified teacher able to engage and inspire the children, and to gain their trust and respect.

Driving is not required as a driver will be provided for work-related travel. The governess should be aware that the boys have nut allergies, and one of the boys also suffers from eczema.
