An international family living close to The Hague in the Netherlands is looking for a loving, caring, and qualified governess to join them long-term.
The family live in a fully-staffed house and require a candidate with experience in a similar role to work as a tutor and guardian for their sons aged 11 and 13. They feel the boys need an active and experienced governess with the ability to teach etiquette and manners, along with being a positive role model in the coming years. The family would like the boys to become more independent as they get older, and the governess will be asked to encourage this mindset and behaviour with them.
The boys currently attend the local international school and are progressing well academically. They have subject-specific tutors when needed, and are active and sporty. They speak fluent English. They also enjoy music – currently focusing principally on trumpet and cello. The boys like sports and play occasional computer games – ideally the candidate will encourage reading and other productive pursuits.
Ideally, the family would like a native Spanish, French, or Dutch governess or native-level speaker of one of these languages (an EU passport holder) to oversee the boys’ academic and extracurricular activities. Some proxy parenting will also be required when the father has to travel with work. Flexibility is key here, as the normal working schedule could change when needed.
The family travel internationally and would like, on occasion, for the governess to join them. The family currently employs two nannies but feels that the time is right to introduce a more educationally-focused governess to work with the boys. The family speak English and Dutch.
The right candidate will be able to be a role model for the boys, and should have excellent references and work history – with at least 3 years’ experience in a similar role and ready to commit long-term.
The family are looking for someone who is active and healthy, and who can bring a positive energy into the household. Some experience in tutoring maths would also be a plus, although this is not obligatory.
Good habits and etiquette are essential. The candidate should be well-organised, and ideally able to cook. Teaching qualifications are a must and the candidate should also have a driving license. A well-educated candidate who can encourage interest in academics and help the boys grow into well-rounded gentleman will be a perfect fit.
